During a Promethean ritual of their creed, Vulkan was resurrected beneath the flames of Mount Deathfire, and promptly disappeared from Nocturne’s surface. The defenders, and the planet itself, resisted under the leadership of the Lord Chaplain, Nomus Rhy’tan, and fought off the Death Guard invasion. As soon as they arrived, they had to defend it against an assault by the Death Guard, who attempted to capitalize on the devastation the Legion had already suffered. Taken by Artellus Numeon to Nocturne, they encountered foes on their perilous journey, before landing upon their homeworld. Escaping via a teleportation device built into his hammer after sparing Curze’s life following a brutal duel, Vulkan arrived on Macragge in an insane rage, before he was slain by a weapon made of the Emperor’s own psychic might. Promethean Rebirthįollowing the retreat from Isstvan, Vulkan had been captured by Konrad Curze, who tortured and inflicted madness upon him. Vulkan was lost, believed dead, but many surviving Salamanders had faith in otherwise, often going into battle with a cry of “Vulkan lives!” Although no sign of the Primarch could be found, his loyal sons were correct, Vulkan had survived the Massacre. Nomus Rhy’tan, Keeper of the Keys of PrometheusĪs part of the Isstvan Atrocity, the Salamanders were nearly destroyed alongside the Iron Hands and Raven Guard, as their once allies turned their guns upon them.
